As DTK co-chair and HDP Hakkari MP Leyla Güven’s hunger strike against the isolation of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan continues on day 68, Tuncel and Irmak will also join the action.

DBP (Democratic Regions Party) co-chair Sebahat Tuncel and former HDP (Peoples’ Democratic Party) MP Selma Irmak will go on indefinite and non-alternate hunger strike tomorrow.

Tuncel and Irmak are both held hostage by the AKP regime in the Kandıra Prison in the western province of İzmit. As DTK co-chair and HDP Hakkari MP Leyla Güven’s hunger strike against the isolation of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan continues on day 68, Tuncel and Irmak will also join the action.

The message sent by Tuncel and Irmak reads as follows:

“The indefinite and non-alternate hunger strike launched by our friend Leyla Güven is on its 68th day and the resistance is growing with further participation in all prisons. Leyla Güven’s demand is not an individual but a social demand. It is the demand of millions of Kurds and millions of people who demand democracy, peace and freedom. The half an hour long meeting held by Mr. Öcalan with his brother is important. However, it does not mean an end to the isolation policy. In order for the policy of absolute isolation to come to an end, we are also going on an indefinite and non-alternate hunger strike from January 15 on. We would like to underline our determination that our action will continue until the aggravated isolation ends. We call on all democratic powers to enhance solidarity and struggle in order for the demands of hunger strikers to be met.”
