Strasbourg activists celebrate March 8

The 14 activists in Strasbourg who have been on a hunger strike for 82 days celebrated March 8.

Hunger strikers who laid their bodies on the line against the aggravated isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan celebrated March 8 World Working Women’s Day and gave messages on women’s struggle.

The hunger strikers gathered for March 8 and celebrated the day that symbolizes women’s resistance.

“WE ARE HERE FOR OCALAN, WHO IS A COMRADE FOR WOMEN”

Hunger striker Nurgul Basaran gave a short speech in the celebration and said March 8 is the day of women’s resistance and insurrection. “We celebrate March 8 for YPJ-YPG and HPG, as well as comrades in prisons, and all who resist,” said Basaran and shared her wish for each March 8 to raise the struggle higher.

Basaran said Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan is “the person who brought women to this day and has been a comrade for them”, and thus it is important to break the isolation against him. Basaran stressed that the resistance continues with great resolve and added: “It is very meaningful for us to celebrate March 8 during our resistance. We are celebrating with great excitement, enthusiasm, morale and the spirit of resistance.”

“WOMEN ARE WHO RESISTED EVIL FOR 5 THOUSAND YEARS”

Hunger striker Mustafa Sarikaya said: “The spirit of resistance is women’s spirit. The biggest resistance is women’s resistance. The evil in the world in the last 5 thousand years started by men’s hands, and women continue to resist it for 5 thousand years.”

Sarikaya said the Kurdish women’s awakening with Ocalan’s leadership is an important stage in the world and that it has created great enthusiasm and hope in the women of the world as well. Sarikaya stressed that women’s resistance facilitated by Ocalan grew with Kurdish women’s lives and labor, and added that all follow the lead of women in resistances in Kurdistan and abroad starting with the resistance against the isolation.

Sarikaya also pointed to the leading role Kurdish women play in the global women’s struggle and added that Kurdish women have been blessed with achieving freedom against tyranny in the Middle East.

Sarikaya said they derive strength from Kurdish women’s morale and stance and added that the greatest loyalty and sacrifice has been displayed by women.
